Loader Slots |
The unique two piece design of the slotted-entry bearing features
a ball (inner ring) which has a spherical race to accommodate misalignment.
The outer ring/rod end has an entry window to allow insertion or removal
of the ball. This design feature allows the ball to be fitted to the outer
member after all manufacturing operations are completed.
Also known as
Loaders
Slot Loaders
Slotted entry bearings
Messerschmitt bearings
First seen in WWII aircraft shot down over England
Why use a loader slot?
1) Replace only the worn component
2) Better conformity
a) Balls and races are machined which results in better ball to race conformity
b) Increases resistance to damage from vibration and thus increases life
Where do you see loader slots?
Thrust reversers
Engine mounts
Landing gear actuators
