Product Manager:
Bruce Dumas

The unique two piece design of the slotted-entry bearing features a ball (inner ring) which has a spherical race to accommodate misalignment. The outer ring/rod end has an entry window to allow insertion or removal of the ball. This design feature allows the ball to be fitted to the outer member after all manufacturing operations are completed.

Also known as
Loaders
Slot Loaders
Slotted entry bearings
Messerschmitt bearings

First seen in WWII aircraft shot down over England

Why use a loader slot?
1) Replace only the worn component
2) Better conformity

a) Balls and races are machined which results in better ball to race conformity
b) Increases resistance to damage from vibration and thus increases life

Where do you see loader slots?
Thrust reversers
Engine mounts
Landing gear actuators

Boeing Loader Slot Standards
BACB10HA: Standard duty spherical with flanged retention or double v-groove
BACB10HB: Balls only. Matches the balls used in the other four specifications
BACB10HC: Same as HA, but high temperature (Uses AM355 instead of 15-5ph for race material)
BACB10HD: Male rod ends
BACB10HE: Female rod ends
S302T001: Sphericals

Typical Construction:
Stellite ball: Stellite #6 to AMS 5387 RC37 min
17-4PH Race: 17-4 to AMS 5643 RC34-40
Spherical race ID malcomized or nitrided
Dry film often applied: Best on ball OD- new ball equals new dry film
